Central State University, also referred to as simply CSU, is a historically black university located in Wilberforce, which is a census-designated place in Greene County, situated in the US state of Ohio, with nearly 1 600 people (2000), living within its limits.
CSU was officially established in 1887, its history beginning in 1856, when Wilberforce College was established in Tawawa Springs, OH. In 1951, Wilberforce College became Central State College, which, 14 years later, achieved university status.
Today, CSU offers its students educational programs in various areas of study, through 3 colleges: College of Education, College of Arts and Sciences, and College of Business and Industry.
Central State's athletic teams are known as the Marauders and Lady Marauders, who compete in NCAA Division II, in various sports for men and women. Their distinctive colors are maroon and gold and their mascot is Marauder Man.
